"It is the common fate of the indolent to see their rights become a prey to the active. The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he break, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime and the punishment of his guilt." -- JP Curran, 1790

Rush Exposes Liberal Media Cover-up
Read it for yourself.
In the wake of the terrorist attacks, we had bigger fish to fry. News stories about Gary Condit's affair, and the murder of the Washington intern, or the series of shark attacks on the east coast fizzled. Carville's political statements seemingly disappeared, until now. Get over yourself, liberals. You've proven to be preppy elitists at every step of the way, so far, and hypocritical doesn't even begin to describe the liberal ideology. Sphere: Related Content

Obama's Stimulus is his First Battle of Manassas
With approval rating below 50% in all major polls, Obama's stimulus plan will hopefully die a quick death. Congrats to the Senate and House Republicans for showing the Administration and the country that in opposition you aren't afraid to plant your heals and fight. Keep up the good work.
Unless there is capitulation from Senate Republicans, the Stimulus package will need to be re-drafted which generate Dem vs. Dem squabbling and added opportunity for Republicans to pick apart the pork barrel flank of this plan.
With the tremendous build-up and impending failure, this may be the equivalent of Union Army's blunders during the First Battle of Manassas or Bull Run for Obama legislative agenda. Eager to satisfy impatient politicians seeking a quick victory, Brig. Gen. Irvin McDowell advanced his untested army across Bull Run to face the Confederate Army in haste. He amassed the largest Army on the North American continent (35K+) and tried to bludgeon his way through to victory. After initial successes and public support for the campaign, he was quickly routed into an embarrassing defeat. Sound familiar.
Even in failure Obama has the capacity and political capital to rebuild and win many future victories. But, this would be a crushing blow to his momentum and strategy.

Republicans flexing their opposition muscles
The House Republicans have expressed themselves as the opposition today by rejecting the ill-contrived Obama Stimulus package. Under the leadership of Rep. Boehner and Rep. Cantor, the House Republicans appear to be voting en masse against the plan.
At an ideological level, Obama's plan is doing a little bit of everything to stimulate the economy, other than make the market more free and unregulated. Republicans want more tax cuts to create an immediate impact. Democrats want more spending to expand the government, which would take longer to get into the economy. Tax cuts have lasting impact year over year. Spending is a one time shot in the arm. The argument against tax cuts is that not all of the money can be guaranteed to be spent. Well, if the money is saved that money is invested or expands the assets of the fiduciary holding (i.e. banks) which gives them more leverage to borrow. Isn't credit availability the heart of the problem here?
With stimulus dollars intended for things like contraception and ACORN, who would vote for this Boondoggle part deux.

The arrogance of assumed mandates
Obama is steadily showing his arrogance, which is a benign attitude incorporated into his DNA as a Chicago politician. What Obama and Rahm will learn the hard way is that victory does not equal an unquestionable mandate. Unlike single party dominated political geographies like Chicago, Boston, and Cheyenne; Washington forces the intelligent use of political capital. The beauty of 2 party systems is that is prevents ideological domination.
Obama better cool his brazen opulence and tone down his partisan quips if he hopes to gain concessions from the Right. Democrats are not the opposition any longer, they now have to play the friendly bargainer.

A moral questioning of Nationalized Healthcare
My question for those who support this model (ahem, Obama, HillaryCare, etc.) is if the limited supply of healthcare provided in this country is not issued based on monetary means, by what means will the supply issued?
Demand will always exceed supply of healthcare and to assume that somehow adequate supply can be provided to all with the urgency, availability, accessibility, and choice they demand is naive.
With that said, by what means if not be price will the supply of healthcare by proportioned in a government controlled system? By age, race, population area, veteran status, first come first serve, severity of illness, etc?
Money is the single equitable means with which to "price" the supply of healthcare without discrimination. So for those seeking to remove money as the "price" element, please tell us how healthcare will be rationed, who decides how, and by what means will it be rationed?

Obama stock is over priced, get ready for the sell off
Obama has no where to go but down. This balloon is has been over inflated. He has tried to let the air out with pessimistic assessments of the economy but the inauguration countered that. With the extravagances of a monarchy and the gushing coverage of a celebrity wedding (Michelle's attire) Obama has likely peeked.
Compared to past Presidents, those who started out hot (Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter) fell hard. Now that he has to make decisions, we will get a sense of reality again.

Barack Obama renews the prominence of the "Victim Society"
The "victim society" is in direct contrast with personal accountability. The "victim society" is an acceptance of intentional and unintentional failure and the embrace of forgiveness for any action based on pity. It is a society in which individuals race to the bottom in hopes of receiving the greatest hand-out. It is a society in which some seek to exploit the charity or sympathy of others to avoid the application of their own efforts towards the same reward. It is a society in which the productive non-victims are forced by guilt to assuage others because of their presumed circumstances.
The "victim society" saw a grand resurgence in the 1990s and has continued to this day. We all seem to be subjected by the open embrace of victimhood by the worlds' leaders, news media, organizations, etc. There are examples of this all around you.
- One is not in error for committing a crime, they are a victim of their circumstances so leniency should be granted.
- One is not is error for noncompetitive business practices, they are a victim of efficient rivals who preyed upon their market weakness so they should be bailed out.
- One is not is error for poor investment diversification, they are the victim of Wall Street greed and their debt should be forgiven.
- One is not in error for failing to heed content warnings, they are the victim of overheated coffee and should be rewarded with a successful egregious lawsuit.
What inspired me to pen this article was my recognition that Barack speaks the language of a victim. Listen to his reasons when discussing any imperfection, and he blames the result not on his actions or judgements but on the circumstances of the situation forcing his error. Let's look at a few quips from his interview with George Stephanopoulos this past weekend on ThisWeek:
George: "...can you fix this [economy]?"
Barack: "I think we can fix this. But it's going to take some time. It's not going to happen overnight. And what we tried to do this week was, first of all, explain where we are in the economy. That the jobs numbers this week were terrible. That means we've lost 2.5 million last year. That's the most since World War II. You've got another 3.4 million people who have gone from full-time work to part-time work, or want full-time work. So the underemployment rate is extremely high. And, you know, whether it's retail sales, manufacturing, all of the indicators show that we are in the worst recession since the Great Depression.
And it's going to take some time to fix it. But what we tried to do was put forward a plan that says let's act boldly, let's act swiftly. Let's not only provide a jump start to the economy and immediately or save 3 million jobs, but let's also put a down payment on some of the structural problems that we have in our economy."
JCB: Excuses based on circumstances, I'm the victim of inheriting this economy, and generalize means of "fixing it", always the "we" can do this, does it ever so "I will do this".
George: "When you look at the array of things you want to do, as president, something is going to have to give. Which of your ambitions, which of your campaign promises will you have to scale back on because of all of this?"
Barack: "Well, we are going to be presenting a budget in February. And as we learned this week, we are inheriting over a trillion dollar deficit. Unheard of in recent history and...So one of the things that I've said is -- and I've said this to my economic team, we are going to have to make some tough choices under my watch to ensure that on the medium term and the long term we're starting to bend the curve where we are getting the deficit under control. They are going to report back to me in the next month to give me a plan. Now as difficult as it is to spend money wisely, it's going to be even tougher to make some of the adjustments that are needed to get the deficit under control."
JCB: Again, victim of circumstances, transference of responsibility to "my economic team", I'm starting to feel sorry for him and all the troubles he has to deal with, not!
George: "are you really talking about over the course of your presidency some kind of a grand bargain? That you have tax reform, health care reform, entitlement reform, including Social Security and Medicare where everybody in the country is going to have to sacrifice something, accept change for the greater good? ...And when will that get done?"
Barack: "...what you describe is exactly what we're going to have to do. ...Everybody is going to have to give. Everybody is going to have to have some skin in the game."
JCB: Applying guilt to force the sacrifice of many for the few victims, somebody get me a tissue
Obama often talks about the inspirational leaders and Presidents of the past and how he aspires to emulate them. Well Barack, victims do not inspire confidence, they inspire pity. You run this path of victimhood for your own gain, voter dependence. The age old game of the Democratic party is to play up victimhood to generate dependence upon their hand-outs, bail-outs, and shout-outs. Dependence breeds fear of cutbacks and voter loyalty. Classic Marxist Theory.
Don't be a victim, don't reward victims. Hold politicians and everyone accountable. Take responsibility without fear of bearing the burden when things go wrong. When they go right, don't let the victims claim your due credit. Without risk their is no reward!

Obamanomics, everything for everyone
He has correctly realized the scale of the financial crisis but his diagnosis and solutions are all over the map. Like his campaign promises, he is a generalist, a populist, a I-want-everyone-to-love-me politician.
Obama's "stimulus plan" includes tax cuts, business credits, infrastructure investment, green technology, deficit spending, promises of a balanced budget, rainbows, unicorns, and peter piper. Even the Democrats with conviction of their own are pushing back on items in the stimulus plan that are in contradiction with their Principles (yes, they do exist).
The man who holds the record for "present" votes will not get by on vague, visionary, generic, or charming policies. The President of the United States is the highest executive position one can hold. He will be forced to make major decisions with imperfect information that will have fatal and enormous consequences on the spot, every minute of every day. If he doesn't understand that, he will learn the hard way.
Bye Bye ambiguity. Its time for Barack to grow his conviction.

68% of the active duty military not optimistic about Obama
In the same survey, over half thought that President Bush had their best interest at heart. Staggering opinions from the people Obama will rely on to end the war in Iraq, win the long war in Afghanistan, defend this country and its freedom.
As a former military member and combat veteran I know that on the ground it doesn't matter who your Commander in Chief is. The only thing that matters is the mission in front of you. Like all citizens of this country, when you step away from the front, you have to ask who is issuing the orders and why?
I started my military career under President Clinton and proudly ended it under the command of President Bush and I am uncertain of President-elect Obama as our next Commander in Chief.

A historical guide to the future of Conservatism: Part 7
Previous Parts:
- Part 1: Popular Voting in Aggregate
- Part 2: Gender and Race
- Part 3: Age and Religion
- Part 4: Regional and Population Size
- Part 5: Eduction and Income
- Part 6: Voting Patterns and Party ID
Part 7: Conclusion and Summary
I began writing this series last month as means to analyze the recent history of elections, exit polls, and demographics to understand the future of Conservatism. After the defeat of 2008, it is important to reflect on the failures, look back, learn, and apply the lessons towards a new future. Conservatism will return to power, the question is how long it will take to get there, will it be a lasting return, what Principles and ideals will be held, and how will we get there.
Highlights of the Key Takeaways:
- Obama's popular vote margin of victory (6%) was less that George H.W. Bush (1988) and Bill Clinton (1992) but is the result of steady growth by Democrats since 1984.
- Conservatives need to hold the majority of Men and reverse the trend toward Democrats among women
- Conservatives cannot be a majority party with +90% of blacks voting Democrat, look for sub-segment of socially conservative Blacks to target
- Hispanics are the best opportunity to improve among minorities, they are a growing population with a volatile history towards both parties.
- Although a small percentage of voters, Asians are swing voters in key states.
- Restore the trend of growth among White Men and White Women that was interrupted in 2008.
- Improve and reverse the trend of 18-29 going Democrat, restore grassroots and get-out-the-vote advantages and build the future
- Recapture the 30-44 year old voters, win young families and convert aging Democratic youth
- Hold a majority among the +60 year olds, as baby boomers age they can be a consistent and reliable voter pool
- Build upon core constituencies of White Protestants, Born again Evangelicals, and those who attend service regularly
- Improve our numbers within the Jewish community by professing our solidarity with Israel and foreign policy Principles
- Win the battle for White Catholic votes, they are a bellwether. Carefully watch the changes of the U.S. Catholic Church and highlight "Life" issues to keep the Pro-Life voter.
- Reverse the declining numbers in urban areas, learn the lessons of Bush's impressive numbers in 2004
- Continue to grow in the 10K-50K population range and dominate the Rural vote more heavily
- Own the Suburban vote, it is key to victory across the board
- Look for in-roads back into the Northeast in congressional, state-level, and governorships, we cannot write-off New England
- Target key Midwestern states that have swung back and forth
- Hold the core south. Reverse trends in VA, NC, FL, and GA.
- Look West! Recapture the West. 2010 means new Electoral shifts to this area. Its growing in importance in EV numbers.
- Identify states that we have won recently but are trending Democrat and invest (MT, GA, etc.) (2000, 2004, and 2008)
- Identify states we've lost but are trending Republican (MN, PA, NJ, OH, etc.) (2000, 2004, and 2008)
- Learn from the macro-view of the regional shifts from the past. Don't just rely on strengths in states because that is all you'll be left with. Target new states to swing to the Blue! (1936 to 1956 , 1956 to 1964, 1964 to 1972, 1972 to 1988, 1988 to 1996, 1996 to 2004, and 2004 to 2008 )
- Reverse Democrat growth among the less educated, present working class policies that embrace the opportunity to advance.
- Reclaim a majority of those with some college or college grad, present intelligent ideas without intellectual snobbishness
- Stop the slide among those with Post-Grad degrees
- Interrupt Democrats impressive margins and growth among those making less than $30K
- Securing a majority among the majority of voters, those making between $30K - $75K
- Return to growth among those making more than $75K, make 2008 a fluke
- Win a significant margin of those who will feel Worse Today in 2012
- Minimize the margin of those who will feel Better Today in 2012
- Find a way to split those who will feel the Same Today in 2012.
- In these very polarized times, hold a large percentage of Conservatives and win a greater than 40% of Moderates.
- Reverse Obama's gains among those who previously voted Republican
- Capture 15-20% of those who previously voted Democrat
- Upgrade voter turnout efforts to narrow the gap to within 10% of the Democrats for First Time Voters
Through this analysis I have learned that although the numbers show only a slight difference in aggregate from 2004, the Conservative base has been eroding for some time. The 2008 election can be the match for Liberal dominance or the capstone of a long ascension to power. Conservatives have a choice. We can make this the peak as we start our new rise to power and their slow decline or we can ignore the signs and continue a disjointed assault while we continue to hold the minority in a Liberal Era.
It is gut check time for Conservatives. Now it the time to re-evaluate who we are, what we stand for, what we want to be, and who we allow to carry our banner. The Republican Party is a standard bearer of Conservatism, but it has strayed from the pasture. In 1992, the GOP learned this lesson and 2008 needs to serve as a reminder. This will take some time. We will fight for gains in 2010 and 2012. But, strategically we need to build a long-term majority rather than a dramatic short-lived ascension.
- Let us work to clearly define our Principles and march towards those.
- Let us rid ourselves of convenient victories that sacrifice the integrity of our Principles.
- Let us assuage the people with intelligent and practical ideas and realistic application of our Principles.
- Let us stand against the compromise, contradiction, or condemnation of our Principles.
- Let us challenge our adversaries and win the tactical battles of this long war.
The future is ours to shape.

Kingston Fossil Plant spill is the beginning of the end for coal

Experts predict that in order for Obama to meet his ecologic goals in the next 10 years he will need to essentially kill the coal industry. Irony, before the election it was leaked that Obama has that very intention.
There are even expensive campaigns focused on "killing the canary" and energy diversification that clearly omits clean coal from the future investment.
Oh, and don't expect any type of industry rescue or bailout from this government, that is reserved for loyal constituents. Prepare for the worst Appalachia, its coming!!

A historical guide to the future of Conservatism: Part 6
Previous Parts:
- Part 1: Popular Voting in Aggregate
- Part 2: Gender and Race
- Part 3: Age and Religion
- Part 4: Regional and Population Size
- Part 5: Eduction and Income
This part draws a comparison between political identification and party identification. Political Identification relates to your associations to "Conservative", "Liberal", "Moderate", or other definitions. Party Identification relates to your voting for a particular political party (i.e. Republican, Democrat, etc.). It is important to note the distinction.
I titled this series "A historical guide to the future of Conservatism", not Republicanism, not the Republican party. The Republican party is one vehicle with which to advance Conservative ideas and Principles. It is not the only vehicle, but certainly a critical path towards the realization of Conservative ideals in the recent past. There are of course other political parties, including segments of the Democratic party, that can and should be used to advance the cause. Outside of the political sphere, there exists many avenues that are often second-fiddle to many, but historically can claim a greater influence over the adoption and protection of Conservatism than the Republican party. For those asking what some of those might be, here is a short list: news media (yes they do exists), Internet (blogs like this), charitable organization, faith-based organization, the Chamber of Commerce, ARI, Cato, etc.
My point is that the Republican party is not our only path towards Conservative goals, but it is a vital to the execution of those goals. The U.S. is a 2 party political system. There are admirable independent parties, but other than in rare juxtapose elections, the field has been winnowed to 2 predominant players. Although they have changed in title, there will always be 2 competing parties representing the paradigms in our winner-take-all system. Those paradigms being the Liberal and Conservative ideologies. I don't foresee the death of either political vehicle (Republican & Democratic parties) in the near future so I urge the disheartened Conservative to not through the baby out with the bath water. If you are disgruntled with the Republican party as I am, take ownership of navigating it back towards the the true Conservative north. Don't sit idly by as the winds of change direct it aimlessly towards compromise. Conservatives are the navigators, the Captains the political figures, let us right the ship towards prominence. And through the unwilling Captains overboard!!
Before we get to the data, I want to point out that these categories follow the narrow linear view of the political spectrum based on Liberal & Conservative titles. It does not apply the secondary axis based on Authoritarianism and Libertarianism. For more on this and if you are interested to find our where you are on the Political Compass, go to http://www.politicalcompass.org/ and take their test. By international comparisons, the United States is "Centre-Right" politically. They have applied their questionnaire to historical figures and plotted them on the compass. Here are a couple of images of past leaders, current leaders, and US Presidential candidates in 2008.

By Political Identification:
These voters were broken down by their political identification:
- Moderate - 44%
- Conservative - 34%
- Liberal - 22%
The voters who identified themselves as Liberal are 22% of the voting population. They overwhelmingly voted for Barack Obama at 90%. Looking at the graph it is easy to see the polarization of Liberal voters and their swing away from the center. Ford and Reagan won +25% of Liberal voters, compared to McCain's 10%. This trend like all is reversible. Remember that these definitions are not as clear-cut as they may appear.
Despite the perception that we are becoming a liberal country, 34% of voters identified themselves as Conservative. After Bush recorded the highest margins of Conservative votes for Republicans be receiving 81% in 2000 and 84% in 2004, McCain only received 78% in 2008. Another 6% drop, similar to his decline among Moderates. It is notable that McCain secured 78% of Conservatives, which is higher than Reagan in 1980, but in a year that 90% of Liberals and and 60% of Moderates voted Democrat, it was just not enough. This is the core constituency for Republicans, given the polarization that exists for the foreseeable future, they will need +75-+80% of these voters.
For those questioning whether the country has turned dramatically more liberal, here is proof that it has not. Conservative voters outnumber Liberals 34% to 22%, a 12% margin. Although, Democrats won Moderate voters by a 21% margins, when you include the splits among Liberals and Conservatives, Democrats hold a 6% edge. Not a dramatic shift considering Bush held the same margins in 2004. Again, we are inter-mixing party and political identification. Republicans need to focus on holding a large % of Conservatives in this polarized world and capture a larger % of Moderates.
By Party Identification:
These voters were broken down by their party identification based on previous votes:
- Previously voted Republican - 46%
- Previously voted Democrat - 37%
- First-time Voters - 11%
Almost 10% less of the voting population Previously voted Democrat than Republican. Barack 89% of these voters, Kerry won 90% in 2004. Obama was able to hold these margins, which is significant. Republicans need to court and convert those who previously voted Democrat (similar to Reagan in 1980). Recent years they have sought to expand the base and voter turnout among existing constituents. Reagan's strategy of converting voters has the lasting impact on party dominance. Hopefully Obama hasn't began a similar swing of "Obama Republicans" that could affect Presidential elections for decades.
First-time Voters registered at 11% in 2008. Obama won 69% of these voters compared to McCain's 30%, that is a 39% margin!! Other than the converted Republicans, these first time voters are another reason that Barack won. Although 11% is not a dramatic increase from years past, the fact that Obama won such a large margin is. So there was not a dramatic surge of new voters in total, but rather a significant skew towards Obama. I credit his use of technology in making the his grassroots, get-out-the-vote machine more efficient.
Key Takeaways:
- In these very polarized times, hold a large percentage of conservatives and win a greater than 40% of Moderates.
- Reverse Obama's gains among those who previously voted Republican
- Capture 15-20% of those who previously voted Democrat
- Upgrade voter turnout efforts to narrow the gap to within 10% of the Democrats

Guilt by Association, Blagojevich fallout
Obama was able to coat his image with Teflon through the campaign. His opponents in the primary and general election never really got his past discrepancies to stick to him. Aided by a beloved media Obama ducked and weaved his questionable associations with Ayers, Wright, Rezcko, etc. All of that has not disappeared. Take a lesson from the Clintons Barack, your past is always looming, waiting for the day to re-emerge from the shadows when you least expect it and kill or maim your political ambitions.
While the U.S. Attorney was quick to cite that the Obama campaign and President-elect himself have not been associated directly with Blagojevich's conduct, yet! There will certainly be considerable damage to the Obama presidency and administration. Illinois politics is a tight circle of cronyism, even if not directly involved we will watch as many of those that Barack is bringing with him from Chi-town to be involved.
I'm not convinced that Obama or those very close to him have not been involved. ABCNews replays a FOXNews interview where Obama's senior campaign advisor, David Axelrod, states that Obama was speaking directly with the Gov. on candidates for his replacement. They are backpedaling hard on this. Unfortunately for them, this will be very difficult, even for them, to rewind.

This adds fuel to Rep. Boehner's strategy captured in a recent memo, in which he plans to highlight corruption among Democrats in the coming years as a way to strike at the foundation of their parties' revitalized brand. This is the tip of the iceberg. A word of caution, don't throw stones in a glass house. Boehner better make sure that the Republican house is clean too.

Update: Obama Citizenship case NOT to be heard by Supreme Court
There is other litigation pending, including the Lafayette Hill, PA., however none will prevent him from becoming our next President.
As I wrote about earlier, I didn't think any of these cases had a chance at preventing his inauguration but rather helped to damage his squeaky reputation. Similar to the Left's attack on President Bush intelligence, it is now Obama's turn to fight for his persona. Early in the Bush Presidency it was suddenly "acceptable" that Presidents are no longer off-limits to comedians and petty humor. We'll see if the same courtesy is extended to Barack. Here are a few topics de jure...
My Obama Top 13
- He's not a U.S. Citizen
- He likes to give the Middle Finger
- Without a teleprompter, he's a stuttering buffoon
- He champions the word "um"
- He's a chain smoker
- He's secretly a Muslim
