Rush Exposes Liberal Media Cover-up

It seems the liberal media's hypocrisy knows no bounds (yes, that did come from the movie Tombstone). Foxnews is reporting that none other than James Carville, the Clinton front man for the decade of the 90's, stated explicitly that he wanted President Bush to fail. Unfortunately for Mr. Carville, his words were uttered on the morning of September 11, 2001 just before reports of terrorist attacks on our nation began trickling out of New York.

In the wake of the terrorist attacks, we had bigger fish to fry. News stories about Gary Condit's affair, and the murder of the Washington intern, or the series of shark attacks on the east coast fizzled. A Charge to Keep

The painting above is titled A Charge to Keep by W.H.D. Koerner. It was lent to then Governor George W. Bush (R-TX) who says this scene "epitomizes our mission" in his book with the same title "A Charge to Keep".

I read the book prior to the 2000 election and I recommend it as a reread or first read for anyone who cares to get better sense of this man. There are many in this country with a deep-seeded hatred for George W. Bush. They have launched a continuing concerted effort to destroy, blame, ridicule, and belittle him. He is the source and reason for all of their problems. I myself have disagreed and criticized his policies and approach. However, if you disapprove of a persons' actions and prevent yourself from understanding that person, your disapproval can morph into anger and hatred for that person. People who have disagreed with President Bush's policies don't just hate the policy, they hate the man. In that hate they contrive conspiracy theories that range into disturbing ulterior motives.

Take President Johnson as an example, a President who's policies I am not fond of. There are some who in disagreement with him over Vietnam have created the idea that he played a part in orchestrating the assassination of President Kennedy with the sole purpose of pursuing war in Vietnam. That is just as ridiculous as thinking President Bush passively allowed 9/11 to invade Iraq is some sort of vindication for his father. It is these obscure and absurd conspiracies that demonstrate the ignorance of the person.

Many pages will be written on the decisions President Bush as made, when reading them ask yourself if the author present the realities of the environment at the time and the mentality of the decision makers. So as we bid farewell to our 43rd President, I think it is important to understand who he is and why he made the decisions he did as President. An under-appreciated characteristic of President Bush has been his consistent keeping of his charge through determination, conviction, and grit (symbolized in the painting above).

Conversely, this same logic should be applied towards our 44th President Barack Obama. Unfortunately, the relative the genuine exposure of Barack's character has been somewhat more defunct when compared to the accessibility with past Presidents. I imagine that as he takes office, the unequivocal coverage of Presidents will reveal more of who Barack Obama is and how he makes decisions.

68% of the active duty military not optimistic about Obama

According to a Military Times poll, 68% of active duty military members are not optimistic about Obama as their Commander in Chief!! 35% are uncertain and 25% are pessimistic!

In the same survey, over half thought that President Bush had their best interest at heart. Staggering opinions from the people Obama will rely on to end the war in Iraq, win the long war in Afghanistan, defend this country and its freedom.

As a former military member and combat veteran I know that on the ground it doesn't matter who your Commander in Chief is. The only thing that matters is the mission in front of you. Like all citizens of this country, when you step away from the front, you have to ask who is issuing the orders and why?

I started my military career under President Clinton and proudly ended it under the command of President Bush and I am uncertain of President-elect Obama as our next Commander in Chief.

The Shoe Doesn't Fit

Yesterday the news media was showing repeated clips of an Egyptian journalist, Muntazar al-Zaidi, throwing his shoes at President Bush. We are now hearing of the jubilation in the Arab world over the shoes being thrown while OPEC has also declared its largest cut in production in the history of such practices. Notwithstanding the liberal commentary that is already jumping on the President for a "failed policy" in Iraq (leave it to major media outlets to call removing Saddam Hussein and putting in a Democratically-elected government a failure), there are some things Americans should take away from this.

1) In typical Muslim extremist fashion, Muntazar missed. All bark and no bite. He's lucky Bush didn't grab the shoe and proceed to beat him mercilessly. He's very lucky some American troops weren't standing next to him, either.

2) President's got reflexes!

3) President Bush remained cool under fire, quickly assessing the situation, and made the decision not to negatively impact his diplomatic visit to Iraq by the actions of an Egyptian 'journalist.'

4) People in Iraq are now free to express dissenting viewpoints, no matter how disgusting and ungrateful they may be. You're welcome. We won't hold our breath on the Christmas card.

To those in America who think this war was all for nothing, let me just remind of you of 3 simple facts. This is key to the reason why we have lost so many brave men and women, military and civilian during the course of this war to remove a dictatorship and install a democracy.

No democracy has ever attacked the United States.

Democracies rarely attack one another.

No two countries with a McDonald's Restaurant (with the sole exception of the Falklands conflict) have had a major war.

The United States was extremely fortunate to have wise founding fathers. They saw the problem with the way governments were run, and had been run everywhere up until their great "experiment." Greece and Rome had nothing on these guys. This country changed the world, for the better, and we continue to do so.

So go ahead OPEC, continue to cut production, falsely inflating your prices. You should soon come to a realization. We don't need your oil. It is convenient for our energy needs at this time, but that's fast becoming a thing of the past.

Iraq: The Ending in sight and historical interpretations

To be clear; the War in Iraq ended successfully on April 9, 2003 with the successful toppling of Saddam Hussein and his reign of terror. President Bush's was not in error when declaring Mission Accomplished that May. We successfully defeated the enemy of the day. The error was inadequately planning for reconstruction.

It has been stabilizing the peace and rebuilding of the new Iraqi Government that existed since 2003 and continues today. With the elimination of Saddam's control, the vacuum of power was quickly consumed by an Al Qaeda insurgency, Iranian and Syrian financing, and regional warlords. The Coalition Forces were vastly undersized for this mission. Stretched thin, the reconstruction hit a low-point in 2006. This all changed with "The Surge" of 20K addition Soldiers and extensions of 4K Marines.

It appears that the Iraqi government has approved a security pact with the U.S. that would extend a troop presence until 2012. To add historical perspective, the U.S. was involved in the rebuilding of Japan from 1945 to 1952 when the Treaty of San Fransisco was signed (7 years). We were largely involved in the rebuilding of Germany from 1945 to 1955 when Western Germany joined NATO (10 years).

Iraq has not failed. The war was won victoriously in a matter of weeks. The rebuilding has been challenging and costly but appears to be ending successfully. Mistakes were made, but they were corrected. The long-term benefits are yet to be measured, but a stabilized Iraq is a near-term victory for the Global War on Terrorism.

For all of those who voted for a Democrat or Republican because of their pledge to "end the war in Iraq", you've been played. They didn't have the guts to end a war in defeat because they knew that the American people would not accept that (regardless of what MSM polls have said). Ask Cindy Sheehan what she thinks of political promises broken (i.e. Nancy Pelosi). We are on the path toward successful completion of the follow-on mission of rebuilding Iraq. We have President Bush to thank for his determination and honor when tough choices had to be made.

Barack Obama and the Democrats will try to claim victory in ending the War in Iraq. But today's announcement, if approved by the Iraqi government, have set in place the end. They are not the orchestrator of this victory but only the beneficiaries of others' efforts. Like Clinton's claimed responsibility for the economy of the 90s, Presidents inherit the results of the actions of their predecessors (good and bad). It is up to us to ensure that history is recorded accurately.

Resurrection of Harry Truman

I urge all of you to get familiar with the biography and history of one Harry S. Truman. We are going to hear his name a lot in the next 3 months for 2 reasons:

1. If McCain makes this comeback, it will be the equivalent of the Truman-Dewey in 1948. Dewey was ahead late and all of the media had called it in his favor. Dewey was running against a very unpopular President (Truman himself) and the media loved him.
2. As Bush exits, many pundits will invoke Truman as a comparison in low approval ratings at the end. Historians will make the comparison that Bush will be judged much kinder by history then his contemporaries for making the tough decisions despite negative public opinion, much like Truman. Bush will be compared to Truman in his presently perceived ineptitude, but legacy will show a man challenged by emotional presence rather than an ignorance or lack of intelligence.
